Twin Geckos was born from frustration — with overpriced software, vendor lock-in, and tech "solutions" that created more problems than they solved. Since 2003, we've built a reputation for honest, practical technology — and in 2025 we added AI automation as our most powerful new capability.
Twin Geckos Technology Services LLC was founded in 2003 by JD Austin — not from a business plan, but from necessity. Following the economic disruption of 9/11, JD found himself at a crossroads and turned a challenge into an opportunity: building a company that could help businesses thrive by leveraging powerful, affordable open-source technology.
From the beginning, the mission was clear: give small and mid-sized businesses access to the same caliber of technology that big enterprises pay millions for — without the bloated licensing fees, vendor lock-in, or overcomplicated implementations.
Twenty-plus years later, that mission hasn't changed. In 2025, JD added AI automation to the practice — built on top of the same phone systems, servers and databases we already support.
"We built every solution by first running it ourselves. Our phone system, our file servers, our CRM — we lived these tools before we ever deployed them for a client."
— JD Austin, Founder
Geckos climb walls not with adhesive, but through van der Waals forces — millions of tiny interactions creating extraordinary grip. JD was fascinated by this: solving hard problems with elegant, natural mechanisms, not brute force. The yin-yang-inspired logo represents complete enterprise infrastructure, customer control, and freedom from vendor captivity.
JD Austin launches Twin Geckos Technology Services LLC in Arizona, with a mission to deliver open-source business solutions at honest prices.
Deploying our first Asterisk-based PBX on March 18th — after outgrowing cell phones and inadequate third-party systems. Telephony services become a core offering.
Expanding into Linux server administration, firewall management, file servers, and CRM deployments — all built on open-source platforms.
Adding database design, optimization, and migration services. Expanding remote support capabilities to serve clients across Arizona and beyond.
JD extends the practice into AI automation — adding workflow automation, chat assistants and custom integrations on top of the infrastructure, VoIP and database work Twin Geckos already does for small and mid-sized businesses.
Two decades of infrastructure, VoIP and database work for Arizona businesses — with AI automation now added to what we build and run.
Founder & Principal Technologist
JD has spent over 20 years in the trenches of real business technology — setting up Linux servers, building Asterisk phone systems, designing databases, and now building AI automation on top of that same infrastructure. He doesn't manage projects from a distance; he builds the solutions himself.
That hands-on approach means you always know exactly who's doing the work and why — no hand-offs to junior staff, no opaque processes, no surprises on the invoice.
These aren't buzzwords on a wall — they're the operating principles we've built every client relationship on for over 20 years.
Open-source foundations mean you own your technology. We never design systems that make us indispensable by trapping you in a proprietary ecosystem.
If a better solution exists elsewhere, we'll tell you — even if it means losing the business. Long-term trust matters more than any single engagement.
We embrace new technology — but only when it genuinely solves a problem. We deploy AI and automation where it creates real ROI, not as a marketing novelty.
From the beginning, Twin Geckos was designed to give back — supporting underserved communities with access to technology and education.
Every dollar you spend on unnecessary licensing or bloated subscriptions is a dollar not invested in growing your business. We protect that margin aggressively.
We measure success in decades, not deployments. Some of our client relationships span 15+ years — because we genuinely care about their outcomes.
